Is Opera as Boring as It Sounds?
  Fri, 31 Oct 2008 22:58:00 -0400
A tangle of mistaken identities. A reluctant bride who goes mad and stabs her new husband on their wedding night. Mysterious golden rings of power lying concealed at the bottom of the Rhine. A grim statue that comes to life to drag a wicked philanderer down to the depths of Hell. These are just a few of the extraordinary situations the opera goer will encounter.

Movie Review: Chocolat
  Sat, 01 Mar 2008 00:33:00 -0500
Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) and her daughter (Victoire Thivisol) move to rural France and open a chocolate shop. Unfortunately, they do this right during Lent and accidentally get people into trouble with the mayor and the church. Then, a group of gypsies (including Johnny Depp) comes to town and makes things even more uncomfortable.

Movie Review - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
  Thu, 31 Jan 2008 23:59:00 -0500
While "Sweeney Todd" definitely deserves its R-rating, give it a chance. Ultimately, it's a fairly moral movie with fantastic singing and acting, and it looks great, too.

Around the World
  Tue, 01 May 2007 00:10:00 -0400
Everyone loves travelling. We love going to new places, exploring new ideas and cultures, and meeting new people. However, most of our budgets don't allow us to randomly travel to Guatemala, Italy, Kenya, or China. It's just not something that we can normally do. Instead of that, though, we can certainly learn about them so that, when we're all millionaires, we can travel to wherever we want to and not appear completely culturally illiterate.

Book Review - Spindle's End
  Tue, 01 May 2007 00:10:00 -0400
Of all the authors that I know, Robin McKinley holds the position as my first favorite author. Don't get me wrong–I love Lewis and Tolkien and classic authors like that, but Robin McKinley is no less of a genius than either of those two men. I recently appreciated this once again while reading "Spindle's End," a retelling of the classic faerie tale "Sleeping Beauty."
