Sarah Cline : Internet Media ColumnistPublished: Sat, 09 Jan 2010 08:42:00 -0500 Allow me to introduce you to your local internet media columnist, Sarah Cline. Though currently a resident of Izmir, Turkey, she has not lived all her life in this exotic location. For the first ten years of her life Sarah dwelt in Uzbekistan. With weather comparable to frigid Wisconsin or the flat plains of Iowa, this could actually be considered an exotic country as well. Thus Sarah has never lived in a boring nation. An obviously homeschooled girl (how else could she be a part of TPS?), she currently has lived fourteen years on this planet and is in the ninth grade. So far life in high school has been going well for her. The Cracked Pot adds variety to an already interesting range of subjects Sarah studies.
As Sarah herself admits, her personality combines two highly different elements in one body. She enjoys difficult mathematical equations and deep discussions about confusing topics, but she also likes music and the creative arts. This intriguing combination forms the basis of her multifaceted character. Funny and creative, she loves to dance - with people, alone, in the rain, wherever - and enjoys the challenges of growing plants. Currently she is attempting to raise a small avocado plant. Unfortunately, the avocado refuses to cooperate. For several weeks it has remained underground, stubbornly resisting all efforts to bring it to the surface. Despite this, Sarah has not given up and does not plan to, continuing to hope and pray that one day it might grow.
Sarah decided to join the Cracked Pot team for several reasons. First of all, she simply loves to write - anything and everything. In her time she has composed dozens of poems, a myriad of papers, and countless stories. She chose to write about the internet because of her interest in the subject and its importance in the lives of TPS students across the globe. In this day and age, she believes, it is often the internet that connects us to friends and family, and knowing more about this medium will help us better understand its uses. Also, she loves researching engaging topics, and felt this position would give her many opportunities to do so.
If stranded on a desert island (yet provided with sustenance and sufficient shelter and given the option to carry two things with her), Sarah would bring a good friend and an iPhone. By taking her friend, she reasons, she would have someone to talk to and a compatriot in her fight for survival. Bringing an iPhone, she says, would allow her to communicate with her family and assist her in relating to the natives. She hopes “the sound of Artesia's "Le Voyaguer'” played by the phone would entrance the islanders and persuade them to help her survive, while a Bible app on the same device would allow her to share the gospel with them. Thus they could “have a jolly time on the island praising God with the ukulele.”
With Sarah as our wise, experienced, and ever-amusing internet columnist, readers stand to gain much knowledge and insight from her articles. This year will surely bring many more engaging pieces from the pen (or keyboard) of Sarah Cline, so we will await with anticipation each new installment.
