Movie Review - "Freaky Friday"Published: Tue, 01 Jan 2008 00:07:00 -0500 Starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, Freaky Friday is a 2003 hit comedy drama. The movie is based on the book by Mary Rogers, which has been made into a movie three times. Disney first made the film in 1976 and then into a television remake in 1995. Mothers and daughters can completely relate with the story and are the target audience, but dads and brothers may also enjoy the film.
Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her fifteen-year-old daughter, Anna (Lindsay Lohan), do not get along by any stretch of the imagination. Both feel extremely misunderstood by the other. Anna battles the same problems any other teenage girl does: school, boys, and just trying to have fun. Meanwhile, Tess works full time as a psychologist and is a single mom about to be married again. Annas band is on the verge of getting out of the garage with an audition at the House of Blues, which coincidently falls at the same time as the rehearsal dinner for Tess and her fiancé Ryans wedding.
One Thursday night at a Chinese restaurant, Anna tells her mom she wants to go to the audition. Tess takes Anna away from the table and they start to have a talk. The talk erupts into a fight over a couple stubborn attitudes and misunderstandings. A Chinese woman comes in during the middle of the battle and offers them both a fortune cookie, which they accept.
The next morning when Tess and Anna awaken, they find themselves trapped inside one anothers bodies. Tess (inside Annas body) decides that they shall tell no one about the problem. Theyll think were crazy, says Tess (in Annas body.) To make matters worse Saturday is Tess wedding, and Anna really does not want to get married to Ryan. The two proceed to try and live each others lives out normally, but of course this causes much confusion to amuse the audience. Family and friends of Anna and Tess are pretty much weirded out by their behavior. Freaky Friday is a fun, good natured movie. Besides a few language issues, such as taking the Lords name in vain, its a pretty clean film. Jamie Lee Curtis does superb in her role and plays Im a teenager stuck in my moms body extremely well. Lindsay Lohan also is fantastic. Its exceedingly relatable, and that always makes a story more enjoyable. This movie is great for just a fun time.
