HannahS2 - Forgiven

This is a picture that I drew for my Journey through Narnia class teacher, Mrs. Richards, as part of a project that we did in the first semester. It is based on a scene in the Narnia movie where Edmund Pevensie returns to his siblings and asks for their forgiveness after betraying them. I always liked the way that you could see how Lucy immediately forgave him, and I decided to draw that scene. I didn't use my colors very well on the picture and I struggled with proportion, but it's still one of my favorite drawings out of the ones that I've sketched this school-year. I hope that you like it!

KatyC - Each Passing Season

Over the past year (since last summer, I mean), I collected these pictures from places around my home, and now they show all of the time that has passed without me noticing.  I was so lucky to get this first picture of spring apple blossoms.  The apple trees at the local
orchard (a biking distance away) were all in bloom and I just happened to have my camera with me.  I found this scene last summer when the sun was setting.  I just thought that it was neat how the clouds can catch the beauty of so many colors and mix them up to fit with each other so well.  Last fall, I took the picture of the gold maple trees on a walk near my home.  The trees look so bright.  The last picture is one that I took last winter on a nice, quiet morning.  The night before, a snow storm had blanketed everything, including the bare trees, so that everything looked white...and cold (I had to run outside in the snow to get it, so I know).  All of these pictures remind me of the passing seasons.  I hadn't really meant to make a collection out of them when I took them, but now that I put them together, I realize that they point out how time has passed.

JordanC - Graduation

When I saw that Lizzie needed some pictures, and that the theme this month was graduation, I grabbed my camera and dug my brother’s kindergarten graduation gown out of his closet. I experimented with lighting and location and finally decided to try the scenery outside. This picture was taken on the grass in my backyard. As I headed out the door, my mom’s Mother’s Day roses caught my eye, and I borrowed one for contrast in the picture. I love the way that the light makes the gown shimmer, and, like I said, the rose adds contrast. When I was looking at the picture, the shadows in the gown made me think of the disappointments in life that we must overcome, while the bright and shiny parts of the gown made me think of how exciting it is to grow up and move on.

JordanC - Starburst of Petals

This picture was taken in my grandmother’s backyard. She was telling my mom and me about her new little flowers one day, so I decided to take a look. I immediately saw a great photo chance and was grateful that I had brought my camera. I shot many different angles of these little white flowers, and all of them turned out nicely. I like this particular shot because of the obvious center and the partially-transparent buds that shoot off from it. The colors are great and I really like the way that all of them are calm but still pop because of where they are and how they are able to contrast. A lot of what makes a good picture is the lighting. In this photograph, the light makes the flowers in the right portion of the photo glow while they shade the other flowers and make the rest of the picture darker. The light on the flower in the center is very soft because it is receiving light indirectly.
