Features ReportersPublished: Tue, 01 May 2007 00:10:00 -0400 Hey, everyone! Here are short biographies for this year's Features reporters. Read on and get to know them! Sarah Hayes -----
Lizzie Spotts is a sophomore in high school. She enjoys writing stories from the bad guys' points of view, listening to music too loudly, and watching far too many movies. Recently, Lizzie was described as being an "energetic, happy, fun-loving, stubborn, hard-working, loyal, loving gal." Her favorite thing to do is think philosophically and analyze everything, something that gets her into trouble at the movie theaters. Lizzie doesn't have a scientific or mathematical gene in her body. She loves everything musical and dramatic. Lizzie has played piano for twelve years. Her main passion in life is to serve other people in God's love and glory.
Jessica New is a 14-year-old girl living life in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is the fourth of five kids, and she has five pets--two dogs and three cats. She's in 8th grade, and this is her third year on TPS. She is currently taking HS French II, HS English 9, and HS World Religions. She loves God, family, hanging out with friends, listening to music, playing piano, photography, rain, New York style cheesecake, shopping, swimming for her local YMCA, shooting hoops, talking on the phone, and having no homework (although the latter rarely happens). She has been a reporter for The Cracked Pot for about 2 1/2 years.
Marie Suzuki has been homeschooled for all of her life, except for her freshman year of high-school, during which she attended an international school. She is a senior and in her third year at TPS. She is enjoying it as much as she has for the past two years--perhaps even more. Her classes this year are HS British Literature and HS Introduction to Astronomy. After she graduates, she plans to study astronomy and perhaps journalism. Marie lives halfway across the world from TPS headquarters, and has gotten quite used to calculating time zone differences...although it can still be somewhat of a pain. Her hobbies include reading, writing, drawing, sports, playing the piano, quoting LotR and Calvin & Hobbes lines at completely random occasions, walking around outside in the freezing night and stargazing (not during the summer because of vicious, bloodthirsty mosquitoes), and sundry activities. She hopes to visit many places someday, including, but not limited to, the following: New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, the International Space Station, and Mars. The purpose of her life is to love God and glorify Him.
Abigail Nusbaum was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1990, but moved to the great state of Texas as soon as she was able, and now lives in the DFW metroplex. She was first introduced to literature at the age of two when her grandpa wrote some poems and recorded them for her to listen to at night. Since then, she has written numerous short stories, essays, and poems for her fans--which consist of her parents, grandparents, and, occasionally, her three younger sisters. Her experience with TPS has continued into this year, which is her third year. Some of her favorite classes have included HS Biology with Mr. Rosenoff, Introduction to Literature with Mrs. Troxell, and, this year, HS Government with Mr. Futoran. In January 2006, she had the privilege of being a member of the Thailand2006 team. She looks forward to the new experiences awaiting her with The Cracked Pot.
Anna-Maria Russo grew up in the heart of Louisiana, where she has grown to loves its rich French culture. She is in her second year at TPS and has been homeschooled for four years. Her favorite things include doing ballet and hanging out with friends. Anna-Maria is also extremely involved in missions. She has been involved with missions since she was two, has been on about 22 trips, and looks forward to more in 2007. As an adult, Anna-Maria hopes to major in medicine and then use it in the mission field. She is very excited about writing for The Cracked Pot.
Libby Roberts is a ninth-grader from Upstate New York. She has been homeschooled for all of her life, and has taken TPS classes for two years now. Besides writing and reporting, Libby enjoys music, composing, art, drama, photo art, debates, and events at her church. Her favorite school subjects include music (unsurprisingly), literature, civics and government, and physics. When asked how to best sum up her character, she says, "Read the prologue to The Fellowship of the Ring--the part about Hobbits. That's me all over!" A staunch Lord of the Rings fan, Libby has been known to refer to herself as Essie Brandybuck. Her most noticeable trait? "Talking and being goofy!" she says. "I am a full fledged 'self-proclaimed' windbag! I talk all the time--sometimes too much. Just ask English 8 teacher Mrs. Ives!" This self-proclaimed windbag can often be found talking to anyone and everyone, making people laugh, and wearing ridiculously large sunglasses.
Benjamin Hayes is a 15-year-old freshman. He is in his third year at TPS, and is taking HS Biology with Mr. Rosenoff and HS English 9 with Mrs. Gaines. Ben enjoys many different things such as music and sports. His favorite type of music is Christian rock, although he does enjoy almost any other type of Christian music. He is the third of four children, three of which are girls. He lives just outside of the the capital of the United States, Washington, D.C. In his spare time, he takes pleasure in playing the guitar, shooting hoops, talking to friends, and pacing. He takes great interest in the fight against atheism and evolution and sides strongly with the biblical view in both debates.
