We have another exciting upcoming event involving our very own News Editor, Bonnie Cofer! The news came out just last night: she has been nominated for the 2008 Gaming Olympics. I got to talk to her representative, Audrey Hay. Actually, I woke her up from a very deep slumber--something that she didnt thank me for.
Lizzie: So, I just heard about Bonnie! Can you tell me about her upcoming goal in this Olympics season?
Ms. Hay: Her goal is to win the most games of Candyland, but that could be very difficult! There are many extremely good Candyland players in this world.
Lizzie: Woah, woah, woah, shes playing Candyland? I thought that it was a game of chance!
Ms. Hay: Some people think that its a game of chance, but, more often than not, people find that it takes more skill than you think to win a game of Candyland.
Lizzie: So, there are tactics and things involved?
Ms. Hay: Most definitely. Its very important to know the card patterns that most often show up in the game. Then, you are able to predict which cards you get next.
Lizzie: Right. So how did Bonnie react?
Ms. Hay: She was very happy. Actually, she screamed and beat her head against the wall until she passed out.
Lizzie: Oh, my. Poor Bonnie! What type of training will she go through?
Ms. Hay: She started playing Candyland at the tender age of two. That was when she first fell in love with the game, and she has played it every day since. She will now go from playing one game a day to five games a day in preparation for the Olympics.
Lizzie: What do you say to people who think that the Olympics are only for sports?
Ms. Hay: They obviously dont know what the word "Olympic" means! Olympic means majestic or exulted, which can obviously apply to more than just sports. People need to check their etymology before making such a rash judgment.
Lizzie: What about the fact that the Olympics have been only sports since their creation way back in the ancient times?
Ms. Hay: The world has always changed and become more modern and will continue to do so until the end of time. People need to open their minds to the skill involved in a complicated game like Candyland.
There you have it! Be sure to tune in during the 2008 Olympics to see our very own Bonnie Cofer win at Candyland.
