ShardsPublished: Sun, 31 Dec 2006 23:59:00 -0500 In addition to the students mentioned in the December issue of The Cracked Pot, two other TPSers were selected to star in performances of The Nutcracker. EmilyA danced the role of Clara in Inland Pacific Ballet's production of The Nutcracker. With over 20,000 people attending eight performances, it has become one of Southern California's largest professional ballet productions. DaraO was selected to dance the part of Clara, as well as several additional roles, in Dance West Ballet's production of The Nutcracker. They will be performing eight shows during the weeks before Christmas. Dance West Ballet is a pre-professional ballet company and is a member of Regional Dance America in the western suburbs of Chicago, IL.
BeckyH2 won a silver award for her State-level 4-H public presentation given at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She did a dramatic interpretation of Romeo and Juliet as a team with her cousin, Wendy.
Many TPS students have recently distinguished themselves in martial arts. TheresaM received her Second Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do, AndrewV and NicholasV passed their tests for their Black Belts in Soo Bahk Do, NathanS received his Black Belt in Karate, and TaylorC received her Brown Belt in Karate. Taylors sister, CooperC, also received three blue ribbons in her most recent swim meet.
MichaelH passed Level 10 Piano Syllabus, with Distinction. Normally, a piano student reaches syllabus level 10 in the 12th grade, but Michael is only 14. To pass this test four years early, and with distinction, is quite commendable. "With Distinction" makes Michael eligible for a local college scholarship. Also, SachaB has won the award from the Oxford Registered Music Teachers' Association for the highest mark in Preliminary Rudiments Piano Theory.
