Congratulations to TPS student MichelleC for her impressive horsemanship. Michelle, who shows gaited Tennessee Walking horses, recently won the Grand Championship on her English trail pleasure horse, Winning Colors, at the "Best in the West" show in Utah. The most amazing part? Michelle is 13 only years old and competes with adults! High school students in New Zealand have gained a very odd privilege. On November 10th, the New Zealand Qualifications Authority announced that students will be allowed to use text-speak on national exams. The mobile phone text message language used by teenagers around the world is made up of abbreviated words and phrases. For instance, Hamlets famous line is reduced to 2b or nt 2b. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority said that students are still encouraged to use full English, but credit will be given to all answers that clearly [show] the required understanding. Congratulations to TPS student LoganM for earning his Star Rank from the Boy Scouts. The Star rank is the second to last rank which a scout must attain before becoming an Eagle Scout. According to the Boy Scout Trail website, Up through First Class rank, a scout was busy learning skills and becoming a self-sufficient scout. He now moves from being a learner to being a leader. The Star rank is attained with participation, leadership, service, and self-directed advancement through merit badges (1). Twin teenagers Alex and Brett Harris are the co-authors of The Rebelution, a blog popular among Christian teens. Now, theyre taking their message on the road with The Rebelution Tour 2007. According to their website, Alex and Brett hope that the tour will allow them to take their counter-cultural message to an even broader audience, holding six regional conferences across the United States between June and August of 2007 (2).
