English 8, section 5

Published: Fri, 02 Jun 2006 12:02:29 -0400

Class sadly concluded today! This last month our section has tackled the last of the Animal Farm study assignments, the final class paper and the moral play, Everyman. Although Mrs. Ives has had some astounding computer trouble these past few weeks, everything has pulled through wonderfully, otherwise.

For Animal Farm, each student had to write a pro/con essay about specific topics in the book such as, "Who is to blame for the animals’ captivity?" and, "Would Snowball have been a better leader than Napoleon?" Our class also had the added delight of “performing” Everyman in class over our microphones. Everything pulled off very smoothly even though a few participants had practice their impromptu acting while filling in for others.

For the last class of the year, Mrs. Ives surprised everyone with a game of English 8 Jeopardy! After dividing the class into two teams, everyone had a rompin’ good time competing against other members with questions on grammar, poetry, literature and even classmates’ papers! We also enjoyed seeing everyone’s pictures in a lovely slideshow by our lovely teacher, before sharing last conversations and saying goodbye to all our friends and teacher one last time.

Although no more assignments remain for the summer, we do have one more quiz to look forward to (or dread). Everyone has been astounding blessings this year! Mrs. Ives showed an upbeat and encouraging personality and all of us owe so much to her! Sadly, we close out the year, our minds filled with invaluable writing information, and our hearts with wonderful memories.

Thank you, Mrs. Ives! Thank you, everyone! It’s been a great year!

Shoutouts:

JacobD: "I really liked Personal Choices. It was fun just to let my mind wander. I hated the work, but I loved the people."

AnnaMariaR: "This is the best English class I’ve had in my life."

HollyH: "My favorite part of the year was the poetry section. I love poetry...and I loved to learn different kinds of poetry so I can grow in it."

ClaireC: "I have learned so much this year in English 8. I am going to miss class a lot. I especially enjoyed doing a literary study on Animal Farm, and I loved our poetry quarter.

LibbyR: "English 8 has been my first class, but it’s been the best part of my school year! Mrs. Ives is the best and I loved all our studies. School will never quite be the same now that class is over with."

KellyN: "Mrs. Ives is a great teacher! She is very encouraging and cheerful. This has been my first TPS English class, and I’m so glad I’ve taken it! I have always hated writing, but this course has helped me to enjoy it more. The students are so kind and encouraging! Especially when you have to be on the mic giving a presentation!

JordanS: "The class was an exquisite journey through a subject that seemed uneventful and, not to mention, challenging. Sitting in my seat waiting for class to begin, it was a charm of my school week. Mrs. Ives made English enjoyable for me. It was challenging enough to get me working, but not to make me fail everything."
