Graduate InterviewsPublished: Thu, 01 Jun 2006 08:58:46 -0400 Each of us has dreams of the future, but those dreams can differ greatly from what really happens. Most children dream of having a job that takes an amount of education that is not easily available to many. But a few do become what they have always wanted to be. A few of the seniors at The Potters School have been willing to share the dreams of the past and the opportunities of the future. Carolyn Candland says, When I grow up This phrase still applies to me today as I prepare for college, but what I want has changed quite a bit. For a long time acting, with its bright spotlights and loud applause, captivated me. But as I grew in my walk with God, He directed me in a different path. I now plan to major in psychology at Bryan College with the purpose of learning what God says about the mind and interpersonal relationships so I can apply this knowledge and wisdom in counseling settings. God has taken me from desiring to put on an act, to desiring to help others stop acting in ways that are less than Gods desire for them." Anna Knesnik says, "When growing up, I had many after-high-school dreams but the most important was motherhood. I saw how hard my Mom worked to homemake the house, in homeschooling her four children, and through her work show her love. From watching early on, I understood that motherhood would not be easy but be of the greatest joys any woman could accomplish. As a graduate, I still have not made up my mind as to which dream but my greatest hope is to eventually become a homeschooling mother." Emily Griswold says, "Throughout elementary and middle school, I dearly wanted to be an artist, a zookeeper or a writer. Or a librarian. I liked animals and words and spent my days reading, making pretty things with my hands and playing with my cat. Now I want to be a molecular biologist, genetics researcher and high school biology/chemistry teacher, get married and raise lots of little scientists." Seth Axen says, "When I was younger, I originally wanted to be a pastor or a police officer. This was because my two non-familial role models were a pastor and a police officer. Later on, I wanted to be a graphic designer and I eventually focused this into the area of 3D design. Now I have modified the desire to be a pastor into a study of theology, the desire to be a police officer into the study of law, and the desire to be a 3D artist into artistic expression. When I graduate, I will be attending the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) to major in Biochemistry. There, I will earn my BS and then Lord willing will transfer to the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) to attend their PharmD/PhD program there. Ultimately, I plan to be a pharmacist with some specialization. As a child, my future plans were always based on my hobbies or on things that I thought would be enjoyable. However, my goals now are built on what gifts and abilities God has given me and on the doors He has opened for me. I eagerly await my future and the unfolding of God's will for my life."
