Seth AxenPublished: Thu, 01 Jun 2006 09:16:12 -0400 "Your carpet is comfortable." That's one of the first things Seth Axen ever said to me, and I will always think of him as the guy who thinks my carpet is comfortable ... OK. Well maybe not always. Seth Axen is a 17-year-old senior who lives in Santa Clarita, California. He has never moved in his life, and loves Santa Clarita. "Santa Clarita is a beautiful town. From looking at it, you wouldn't know it is growing to be one of the largest cities in California. It's retained its 'small town' feel." Seth has one sibling, and older brother named Jared who is 19. In just a few weeks he will be receiving his Associates Degree. Like many graduating TPSers, Seth started out as a freshman, this being his fourth year on TPS. In the past he has taken chemistry, grammar & composition, US history, Latin I and Latin II. This year Seth took understanding the times during the first semester and is currently taking Latin III/IV. As far as TPS in general, Seth loves it. "TPS rocks this world like none other," he said. "My high school education over the last several years would have been incredibly boring and I would have quite a few less friends if not for TPS." In January of 2006, Seth, along with 17 other TPSers went to Thailand for a 10-day experience like no other. "The Thailand trip was one of the most life-changing experiences I've ever had," he said. "After reading what people had written about the trip, I thought to myself, 'So it seems everyone changes dramatically after going on this trip. I'll probably be the first who won't change at all.' I expected it to be just another trip where I would work with kids, have fun, and have my account settled with God. But little did I know what God had in store for me. God showed me what true worship and service were and he opened my heart for the unsaved and for the suffering believes in these countries. It's been several months since the trip, but I can still feel the lasting effects." Like many, Seth formed relationships with people at the conference and on the trip that will last a lifetime. In his spare time, Seth enjoys drama and acting. "I've been in several plays so far, mostly as villains, and those have been some of my favorite experiences." He also enjoys graphic, 3D and web design, but, "To be honest," Seth said, "I'm too busy to indulge in most hobbies anymore." In fact, Seth claims that 99.9% of his time is spent doing homework and classes. He started attending College of the Canyons in summer 2002 and has earned several credits. He is also the president of the college math club, and is an active member in the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. In May he received his Associates Degree in Biological and Physical Sciences. This fall Seth will be attending the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) with an intended major in Biochemistry. To close, Seth would like to say to all those wonderful students of TPS, "Planarians make good friends."
