Spring greetings from English 8, section five!

Our poetry study now concluded, section five has leaped right into the Animal Farm literature study! Already about halfway through, our section's students have been stretching their brains with deep discussion questions and other comprehension assignments relating to the book. The course began with a small talk about communism to give background on the parallels in the story to such government. And so far, learning about Animal Farm (commonly called A. F. in class) has been extremely interesting. For instance, did you know that all the main characters are based on real communists? Did you know that this whole story almost presents the history of Russian communism in its plot? That's right folks! George Orwell's novel is full of this interesting stuff! And our class has been very blessed to be able to study it.

Currently, section five students are busily working on their persuasive essays. After discussing the pros and cons of essays in class, participants feverishly work to get their opinions out on paper for one of our last essay assignments this year. Also on the table is the last personal choice writing assigment of the school year. This time though, our section has been challenged by attempting to self conference our own first drafts--as opposed to Mrs. Ives doing it like she has since day one.

Everyone is up for a busy month ahead, but so far, everything has been enjoyed by most if not all students and everybody has shown a lot of really good writing this past month!
