Reporter's Note:

Hey, guys--Amber-Marie here. I interviewed the great Rebecca MacGilvary for this month's Female Student Spotlight. I’m using the new AIM approach for this article, so be sure to let us know what you think.

Amber-Marie: When were you born?
Rebecca MacGilvary: I’m 14 years old, born June 4th, 1991
AM: Nice. One month before the nation’s birthday.
RM: ha-ha
RM: True
AM: That’s great. Do you have any other hobbies or interests?
RM: Snowboarding
RM: And basketball
AM: Wow... like… In the snow?
RM: lol
RM: Yeah
RM: I was an also an honor star
AM: What’s an honor star?
RM: lol, it is a program through our church and many others. I had to complete three intense years of bible study
AM: Niiiice
RM: Memorizing stuff, projects...
RM: You get the idea
AM: Yah
RM: I was [also] part of a human video group this past year; we witnessed about 10 times in front of many people
AM: That’s awesome; I love human videos, and I’ve been in a few myself.
AM: Where do you live?
RM: Auburn, New Hampshire
AM: Is it nice there?
RM: Yeah, it's quiet; it is very cold at times
AM: So, do you have an accent?
RM: I don't think so
RM: Compared to some, probably
AM: How would you pronounce the word BAG?
AM: Like... beg (a beggar) or... bag (as in dad)?
RM: People from here would drag the A a little bit
AM: Do you use the phrase "Oh for Pete’s Sake?"
RM: Some people do, like old people
AM: Wow... it really is another world up there.
AM: Have you ever lived anywhere else?
RM: Yup, TX and CA
AM: Oh, Texas, now we're talking!
AM: Where in TX?
RM: Austin
AM: Do you like it better up north or down south?
RM: Um...
RM: North
AM: *gasp* Why?
RM: Just 'cause I’ve lived there longer
AM: Ahhh... so you're biased
RM: ha-ha
RM: I do miss the heat, though
AM: Oh, yes, I would definitely miss that, too... snow is just... the essence of evil
RM: lol, yah. You know, I just got finished doing a play, too.
AM: Oh, awesome! What play?
RM: It's a Wonderful Life. I played Potters' secretary
AM: Exciting =D
RM: Yeah, my arms were kinda tired from pushing the wheelchair, though
AM: Yah, I bet
RM: We had this awesome old one from the 80's
AM: lol, that’s great
RM: I did some ballroom dancing in that play
RM: For the dance scene when the floor opens
AM: Fun, did you like it?
RM: Yeah
RM: I love to dance
AM: Dancing is wonderful
AM: So, How many years have you been with us at TPS?
RM: Only 1. I’ve been home schooled for 8 years, though.
AM: So, this is your first year?
RM: With TPS, yes
AM: It’s brutal, ain’t it?
RM: It can get difficult
RM: With finals coming up, I’m a mess!
AM: As are we all, my dear, as are we all.
RM: lol
AM: Where did you go to school before you were home-schooled?
RM: A private school; I can't remember the name
AM: Do you like private school or home school better?
RM: Definitely home school!
AM: Really? Why?
RM: I am able to make so much more of my education being home-schooled! If I am struggling in a certain area, I am able to take some extra time and work harder at it. In any other school I wouldn't be able to do that
AM: Yes, it does have some great benefits
AM: What classes are you taking this year?
RM: Biology with Mrs. Becky Rathbun and English 9 with Ms. Janis Gaines
AM: Oh, Mrs. Rathbun is wonderful
AM: I took that class my first year at TPS; she’s a great teacher
RM: Yes, I love her!
AM: The class was definitely tough, though
RM: Oh yeah, don't get me started
AM: Do you plan on coming back next year?
RM: Yes, I do
AM: That’s great!
RM: Yeah
RM: I really love it here; it challenges me
AM: It really does. Do you feel that attending this school has given you an advantage over other regular home-schooled children?
RM: Oh, yes!
RM: The way everything is run with the forum and stuff really gives me a chance to make something more out of this experience at TPS!!
RM: You guys are so wonderful
AM: Aw. *blush* I am wonderful, aren’t I?
AM: =P
RM: ha
RM: Yes, you are
AM: Why, thank you, and so are you.

I hope you all enjoyed getting to know Rebecca MacGilvary a little more. So, drop her a line--she’s a great girl to know.
