Woven and SpunPublished: Sun, 01 Jan 2006 09:00:00 -0500 Ever since her debut album Wide Eyed (1998) Nichole Nordeman has consistently produced music that refreshes and inspires. Her third album, Woven & Spun (2002), does just that. With Woven & Spun Nichole moves beyond the topics of her previous albums--searching to understand God and His mysteries--to Gods abundant goodness. Nichole, who wrote all but one song on the album, doesnt sugarcoat her lyrics as so many Christian artists seem to. She explores the pain of change and struggles to accept her own imperfections in tracks like I Am and Even Then. However, she does not cease to recognize Gods mercy in view of her own humanity. Musically, the album has its strong tracks and its relatively bland tracks. Lyrically, it couldnt be better. Nicholes real, honest lyrics set her apart from her peers. Woven & Spun is more of a worship album than any of Nicholes earlier releases. It constantly points the listener to Gods grace and goodness. Nichole is able to draw the listener in because she knows how to write from life. Tracks that stand out:
The albums final track, a soft piano ballad entitled Gratitude, brings the entire album together with these lyrics: We'll give thanks to You with gratitude For lessons learned in how to trust in YouThat we are blessed beyond what we could ever dream In abundance or in need
