All Things NewPublished: Sun, 01 Jan 2006 09:00:00 -0500 Forty-nine Dove Awards, five Grammys, an AMA, two platinum and seven gold albums, nine million total albums sold, and fourty-three number one radio hits. Talk about a lot of success! But none of this seems to matter to Sparrow records artist, Steven Curtis Chapman. Chapman released his fifteenth CD, All Things New, in his nineteen-year music career in September 2004. For many years Steven Curtis Chapman has been a household name in the Christian music industry. He continues to entertain and amaze people of all ages with his fun songs that really make you think about the words. Steven Curtis Chapman is currently on a Christmas tour with MercyMe where he is singing songs from both his first Christmas album, and his latest album All I Really Want for a Christmas. Reviewer's Rating: 10/10 Comments on tracks: All Things New The title track of the new album, All Things New is a song about Gods glory. The main idea of the song is that Christ makes all things new. He has the power to change and restore things. He has the power to make everything new, to make them into perfect beings, and how He makes all things new right before our very eyes. Much of You This is a song of praise to Christ. It takes about how we need to make much of Christ. The first verse talks about how we couldnt possibly see the sun rise, mountains, and other works of creation and possibly think that they were made to show our glory, or as SCC puts it to make much of me. The chorus talks about how we need to give our lives to Christ to make much of Christ, to show His glory throughout the world. Only Getting Started This one is a real fun one. It starts out with a funky beat that is almost jazzy. It talks about how a lot of people heard about Christ as little kids, and all they really knew was that God is God and they wanted to know Him. The chorus goes on to talk about how even when people know Christ for years they still are only getting started to know Him. It goes, I am only just beginning/ I am only getting/ Started to know You now/ Im only getting started/ And when I started thinking Im getting/ Close to the end, You just smile at me and say/ Hey kid, you aint seen nothing yet/ Im only getting started/ Im only getting started now. The main point of the song is that even when we think Gods done, Hes really only just begun to work in our lives. Last Day On Earth This is one of my favorites tracks. It reminds us of how we need to live every day for Christ, because we dont know if thisll be our last day on earth. Even though this is a common subject for songs, this one really hit me pretty hard. The first verse talks about seeing a funeral procession, which makes us think, what would happen if this was our last day on earth, but we shouldnt need to see a funeral procession to remember to always live like its our last day. What Now Inspired by Matthew 25:40 which says, The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' The verses talk about how we see the face of Jesus all over, in orphans and homeless people. Those who are less fortunate than us. The chorus goes, So what now/ What will you do now that youve found Me/ What now/ What will you do with this treasure youve found/ I know I may not look like what you expected/ But if youll remember/ This is right where I said I would be/ You found me/ What now. It reminds us that we need to do something now, and not wait. Please Only You The main topic of this song is how we have so much demand on us in this day and age. So much demand on our times, resources, and such. The chorus asks Christ to take the heart and make it true, and for all we say and do to please Christ. Coming Attractions This song is talking about how we need to live our live. How we need to live our life so that others will see the coming attractions. What it will be like when Christ gets here. The chorus goes, Let Your kingdom come in me/ Let Your will be done in me/ Here on earth as it is and as it will be in Heaven/ Show Your glory to the world/ Tell Your story to the world/ Let my life be a preview of coming attractions/ Yea, coming attractions. Big Story Christ is evident in this world. This song talks about how theres a big story that is rumored around the world, and how Christ is totally evident in this world. Believe Me Now This song talks about how Christ can talk to us. When it seems like the whole world is closing in around us, and we cant do anything about it, Christ is there to fight for us. Hes always there to save us. Angel's Wish This is another one of my favorites. The first verse asks what God did when different things happened, like when he made the world, and when the flood came. It wonders what His voice sounds like. And it talks about how there are a few things angels know that we dont. The chorus goes on to say, Well, I cant fly/ At least not/ Ive got no halo on my head/ And I cant even start to picture Heavens beauty/ But Ive been shown the Saviors love/ The grace of God has raised me up/ To show me things the angels long to look into/ And I know things/ The Angels only wish they knew. I Believe in You Written in honor of his eldest daughter Emily, Steven Curtis Chapman has revamped the verses to this song at least once. He wrote it back when she was transitioning into middle school, and has changed the verses, but the chorus has stayed the same. It mainly talks about how he believes in his little girl. Treasure of Jesus This song is rather short, but has a big message. It mainly asks what we can do to show the world what a treasure Jesus really is. It wonders what it will take, and what we can give, so this world can know what a treasure Jesus is.
