millions of people needed help desperately. The Salvation Army and Red
Cross have come to the aid of victims across the nation. The Red Cross
has provided 3.3 million overnight stays in about 1,100 shelters, and
6.8 million overnight hotel stays in 9,600 hotels across the country.
Just shy of 190,000 Red Cross relief workers have served nearly 24.5
million meals and 17.2 million snacks to the victims of Katrina.
Company's such as Amazon and Yahoo have given over 10 million dollars
each through support of their customers. The Salvation Army has served
over 2.6 million meals and over 4 million sandwiches. They
have distributed over 44,000 cleaning kits, and almost 75,000 food
boxes to the victims of Katrina. Salvation Army employees and
volunteers have served over 508,000 hours total. If it was not for
these organizations, people may have had little or no hope. These
organizations amoung others greatly assisted the effort to restore life
in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
