Information on MKs and TCKs

Published: Sat, 04 Jun 2005 12:00:00 -0400

A Missionary Kid, otherwise known as MK, is a child of a missionary family. These kids have either been brought up in the mission field, or have moved to a different country with their family to become missionaries. There are different types of missionaries. Some missionaries are sponsored by just one denomination, while others—called Faith Missions—are sponsored by many different people from different denominations and organizations.

Contrary to a Missionary Kid, a Third Culture Kid—TCK—is a child who lives in a foreign country for a reason other than mission work. Most TCKs live in foreign countries because one or the other of their parents works in that country. Some TCKs are in countries that do not allow Christian missionaries, so they go to a country to live and work and, while they are there, minister through their lives and actions.
