Student Spotlight - Rebecca CorrinPublished: Sat, 04 Jun 2005 12:00:00 -0400 For the past two years, Rebecca Corrin has taken Potter’s School classes and has been a well-known member of the Potter’s School community. Rebecca lives with her parents, her older sister, Christina, a former TPS student and her older brother, James (JamesC) and her “absolutely adorable dog.” Rebecca was born in the United States, but she currently resides in Germany.
Six years ago, she and her family moved to Germany when her father became a contractor for the military. Rebecca and her family expect to move back to the States sometime within the next year, as their contract is up.
“I love living overseas. This is my home. Although I love going to the States for an occasional visit, it will feel really strange when I live there again,” Rebecca stated when asked how she feels about living over seas.
One special family tradition that the Corrin family practices involves Christmas day. Every Christmas each person opens “one present per hour.” This makes Christmas last much longer than just a couple hours in the morning. “The driving forces of my life are God and my parents,” Rebecca states. “Whenever I do what they tell me to, I feel great.”
For the past seven years, Rebecca has been homeschooled. Last year, after watching both of her siblings “with their headphones on” while taking TPS classes, Rebecca was enrolled in Writer’s Workshop with Mrs. Thomas for the 2003-2004 school-year. This year she is enrolled in Ancient History, English, and Science. Rebecca loves TPS and the many friends she has made through TPS. She also finds that having just one class a week makes her life easier than if she had a class every day.
Rebecca listens to many varieties of music, but her favorite is praise songs and some rock. She loves to listen to Amy Grant, one of her favorite singers.
When Rebecca needs to laugh she watches Cool Running, her favorite movie. She loves this movie because, she says, it “encourages me to never give up, to reach for my goals and dreams, just like the Jamaican bobsledders (portrayed in the movie) did.”
As a writer, Rebecca loves a story with a plot that carries her away. For this reason, her favorite book is Hope by Lori Copeland. Rebecca loves the “adventure and excitement” and characters that never fail to sweep her away. When she’s not doing school Rebecca likes “to write, read, listen to tapes, walk in the woods,” and hang out with her best friend Crystal. Right now she doesn’t have a job but she hopes to get one when her family moves back to the States.
Although she has not decided on a major yet, Rebecca has an interest in “Elementary Education.” At the moment, Rebecca is interested in attending Grove City College in Pennsylvania, or Patrick Henry College in Virginia—but she still has time to decide.
“Working hard and having the satisfaction of knowing I have a job well done has probably been the best thing that’s happened to me over the past week,” Rebecca states.
