Minister of DefensePublished: Fri, 03 Jun 2005 10:26:19 -0400 Reggie White died and Christians mourn. Wait…replay that. Christians mourn the passing of one of the hardest hitting football players of all time? Christians mourn for a man who made a living out of hitting people? What ever happened to turning the other cheek? Reggie White was an exception to the rule. Reggie White was a minister who happened to be playing professional football. He was a freak, not only physically but spiritually too. Using his famous hump move he would leave offensive lineman bewildered as he once again sacked the quarterback. Then he would pick the quarterback back up off the ground. Reggie White has the second most career sacks of all time, and if he hadn’t played in an independent league, he may have had the most. But when a church that he was associate pastor of in Knoxville, Tennessee burned down, he raised funds to rebuild it, and he condemned the suspicious epidemic of fires in the south. Nobody doubted his sincerity as a Christian. It was who he was. He didn’t hide his beliefs; he wore them and touched many people’s lives by doing this. He died the day after Christmas on Sunday morning. If he hadn’t been dying, I know where he would have been; in the church.
