Thailand Trip ApproachesPublished: Thu, 02 Jun 2005 11:04:00 -0400 Where are you going to be January 22 through 31? Going to a foreign country, eating weird food, being totally stressed, and experiencing a variety of new experiences? If you were accepted to go to Thailand, then yes, you will be doing all those things. For everyone else, you might wonder what those Potter's Schoolers are doing.
According to the support letter sent to SarahJ, one of the accepted volunteers, they will be "providing family discipleship seminars for adults and youth; coordinating the entire teen and children's program, including teaching Bible classes and supervising related activities; and leading worship for the entire conference. Although Sarah does not know what she is going to be doing yet, she can not wait to find out.
A major reason students volunteered is that they had heard about the awesome time that the students had last year, there. Sarah explains, I had heard so much about the previous Thailand trip, and how that team was able to wholeheartedly serve God and the missionary families over there - and that sounded like something that I would really love to do. The whole team came back from Thailand with their lives changed. I really was amazed when I saw that. Likewise, KeeganB says, I had been praying about the chance to serve Him in Thailand since I heard about the trip last year. I've always longed to participate in a service trip, and I really felt God leading me to apply.
Both Keegan and Sarah have similar views on how they hope God uses them there. Keegan explains, I hope God will use us to uplift and encourage the people serving throughout Asia. It is my hope that we can make this educational conference, which is one of their few chances to socialize with other Christians, a great experience that stays with them and gives strength to them throughout the whole year, Sarah ponders, Well, most of the time when I think God will use me in a certain area - it turns out entirely the opposite. But, I hope and pray that God will use me, and the entire team to be an encouragement to all of the missionary families at the conference.
Neither of them is nervous about going, at least not at the moment. As Keegan explains, I know that, although I'll be traveling overseas and in a country I've never been to, God's hand is at work and He will take care of each of us as we travel to and within Thailand.
This trip last year changed many lives; will this year be the same? Sarah hopes so: Well, I know that it will be just amazing to see the hundreds of missionaries who have dedicated their entire lives just to serving God and spreading his Word - and I hope seeing that will strengthen my current relationship with Christ. As to changing my outlook on life, I can only hope it will.
Sarah implores her fellow students, Be praying for each member of the team going, that we would all be able to raise enough funds in time, and that we will ever-shining lights of God's love everywhere we go on this trip.
So you might not be going to Thailand, but you can be a vital part of the trip. Pray for them.
